From a very young age, Christiane has been drawn to nature and flowers. Growing up surrounded by meadows, woodlands, and mountains in her hometown in Austria, it was her grandmother’s passion for her garden that influenced Christiane early on. In 1997, Christiane moved with her family to Quebec, where she developed her love for gardening. Christiane always had an interest in art, exploring with pencil, oil and acrylic but never pursued it further until she discovered watercolour in 2016. Botanical illustration quickly became her passion which she was able to combine with her love of flowers.
I love watercolour! It’s unlike any other medium to me. There is a beautiful magic to working with fluid colour and water, responding to what is happening on paper. I am drawn to detail and realism. Every fold, every vein as well as the light and shadows influence how the flower is perceived. I love how the subject stands out against the white paper. |
Dès son plus jeune âge, Christiane est attirée par la nature et les fleurs. Ayant grandi entourée de prairies, de forêts et de montagnes dans sa ville natale en Autriche, c’est la passion de sa grand-mère pour son jardin qui l’a influencé très tôt. En 1997, Christiane a déménagé avec sa famille au Québec, où elle a développé son amour pour le jardinage. Christiane a toujours eu un intérêt pour l’art, explorant le crayon, l’huile et l’acrylique, mais n’a jamais poussé plus loin jusqu’à ce qu’elle découvre l’aquarelle en 2016. L’illustration botanique devient rapidement sa passion qu’elle sait allier à son amour des fleurs.
J’adore l’aquarelle! Pour moi, cela ne ressemble à aucun autre médium. Il y a une belle magie à travailler avec des couleurs fluides et de l’eau, en réponse à ce qui se passe sur le papier. Je suis attirée par le détail et le réalisme. Chaque pli, chaque veine ainsi que la lumière et les ombres influencent la perception de la fleur. J’aime la façon dont le sujet se démarque contre le papier blanc. |
